German energy giant sues government

One of Germany's largest power providers, RWE, is to sue over the government-ordered closure of one of its nuclear plants. The shuttering was in response to a nuclear rethink triggered by the Japan nuclear crisis.

The German government has made no pre-determined decision on whether the seven oldest nuclear plants temporarily shut down last month will be permanently shut, Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman said on Friday.

German energy giant RWE is taking legal action against the state of Hesse after being ordered to shut down a nuclear power plant for three months. The order came soon after an earthquake and Tsunami caused a nuclear emergency in Japan.
