Kanimozhi and Tihar jail

Far from the ease she is used to, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi spent a sleepless first night at Tihar Jail on Friday (20-May-2011) and when a warden woke her up around 5.30 am on Saturday, she said "Don't disturb me. I am sleeping late".

Lodged in a 15 by 10 feet cell with only a ceiling fan to beat the heat, DMK MP Kanimozhi spent her first night in Tihar jail like any other accused and had a modest breakfast.

A day she was sent to Tihar jail, the Rajya Sabha MP had an emotional bonding with her mother and son when she appeared before the special CBI court on Saturday (21-May-2011).

Kanimozhi was not smiling much after reaching Tihar, and kept to herself most of the time. She was in her cell around 11.30 pm on Friday and could not sleep till about 2.30 am as the heat, despite a fan in her 10x15 feet cell, was smothering.

For neighbours in jail no 6, Kanimozhi has Madhuri Gupta, the former official of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad arrested on charges of spying, Sonu Punjaban, arrested in the biggest prostitution network in Delhi and NCR through "word of mouth" and Sharda Jain, who was given a life term last year for her role in the murder of city councillor Atma Ram Gupta.
