Indian minor girl stabbed in the eye for resisting rape

Even before the Mayawati government could crack the case of murder and alleged rape of a minor in Lakhimpur, another shocking case of rape of another minor girl has been reported from the state.

A 14-year-old Dalit girl suffered a grievous eye injury after she was stabbed allegedly by two youths when she resisted their attempt to rape her in Gursahaiganj area here, a senior police officer said on Sunday (19-June-2011).

In the Ghur-purwa village of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl, Preeti, was stabbed in both her eyes by men who tried to rape her on early Saturday morning.

She was dragged into the fields by the assailants Kuldeep and Niranjan and when she resisted, they assaulted and stabbed her eyes.

The two men attempted to rape the girl when she had gone out in connection with some work in Gadwa Buzurg village Saturday (18-June-2011) evening, Rajendra Singh, Superintendent of Police Kannauj said.

“When the girl raised alarm, the duo attacked her with knives, piercing her left eye and injuring the other,” Mr. Singh said.

The girl has been referred to Kanpur for further treatment, the SP said.

Doctors treating her said, "The left eye is completely damaged. The inner parts of the eye are severely damaged. The Cornea is badly damaged, may not come back to its normal condition."

The two accused are absconding with a case being filed against them for rape and attempt to murder. Two policemen, a constable and a sub-inspector have been suspended for not taking timely action of registering an FIR when the girl was brought to the police station.
