Osama bin Laden's terror network admitted today (06-May-2011) that US forces had tracked and killed their leader, but vowed to keep on attacking America.
Al-Qaeda on Friday confirmed the killing of Osama bin Laden and warned of retaliation, saying Americans' "happiness will turn to sadness."
The confirmation came in an Internet statement posted on militant websites, signed by "the general leadership" of al-Qaida. The announcement opens the way for the group to name a successor to bin Laden. His deputy Ayman al-Zawahri is now the most prominent figure in the group and is a very likely contender to take his place.
Cursing the United States for Laden's killing, the organisation vowed to continue with its attacks. It also urged an uprising in Pakistan, where its chief was killed in a special operation in military town Abbottabad on Monday.
The Al Qaeda statement said Laden's blood "will not be wasted" and it will continue attacking Americans and their allies.
The writers of the statement appeared unaware of the announcement by American officials that bin Laden's body had been buried at sea.
