Make sure that you avoid coffee to wash the meal down, for a study says that it can cause a rise in your blood sugar levels, to levels on a par with patients at risk of diabetes.

Fast food may not be the best choice at mealtime, but this new University of Guelph study has found that washing your meal down with coffee may be even worse.

Topping off a fast-food meal with coffee makes the meal twice as bad for you. The caffeine actually doubles the elevation in blood sugar levels triggered by eating fatty fare, according to a new study.

"A healthy person's blood sugar levels shoot up after eating a high-fat meal, but that spike doubles after having both a fatty meal and caffeinated coffee - jumping to levels similar to those of people at risk of diabetes," says Marie-Soleil Beaudoin from University of Guelph.

The harmful effects of eating fatty fast food meals are worsened when you chase it down with a cup or two of coffee during or after the meal.
