The Public Health Department in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India has seized around 38750 substandard water sachets, 203 water cans, 795 packets of artificially flavored fruit juices and buttermilk sachets from 300 retail outlets in various parts of the city.
The raids took place in Tondiarpet, Washermenpet, Royapuram, Vysarpadi, Perambur and Pulianthope in north Chennai, Anna Nagar, Aminjikarai and Virugambakkam in the Kilpauk zone, besides Adyar, Mandaveli, Saidapet, Mylapore, Velachery and T Nagar in south Chennai.

The packets did not meet the mandatory requirements, such as printing of manufacturing date, address of the manufacturer, batch number and expiry date, Corporation officials said.

The corporation has requested the public to look for details like date of manufacturing, batch number and best-before-use date on the wrappers before purchase.
