In a bid to take on Google, Yahoo! is all set to unveil its latest search engine “Search Direct” in India by the second half of 2011, said Prabhakar Raghavan, chief strategy officer, executive vice-president and head of Yahoo! Labs-India.
Yahoo rolled out Yahoo Search Direct this week, its boxed-up user-friendly rival to Google Instant search. Thus, Yahoo has unveiled an online hybrid search and display advertising model in a bid to boost its dwindling share of the search advertising market.
Meanwhile, Yahoo India is also considering whether to accept the product or business proposals from the people in India in order to expand its pool of ideas.
Mr Prabhakar said the Internet should be open and any efforts to stack on the basis of Operating Systems and exclusive applications could defeat the spirit of the Web that was built on openness.
Of its total workforce of 14,000 globally, Yahoo! has 2,000 employees at its R & D facility in Bangalore.
